While hunting, two sons and two fathers shot three ducks. How could each carry one duck home?

Answer: The three people were a grandfather, his son, and his grandson. The grandfather’s son is both a father and a son.

    1. Can there be more than two sons? If there must be three persons for three ducks then there should always be three sons. You cannot exist as a male without being a son of someone, can you? Unless you’re artificially manufactured. Or had a sex change.
Otherwise, could it be that the hunting party is a father, his son and grandson? But then there would be three sons and two fathers, since the father is also son of someone.

      1. Jari, if a grandfather, his son and his grandson go hunting, there are two sons and two fathers (the grandfather and his son are both fathers). If each the grandfather, his son and his grandson each shot a duck, then they could each carry one duck home. 😊

It is more of a riddle than a brain teaser.

        1. yeah I got that, but what kept me (over)thinking is that also the grandfather, his son and his grandson are all sons, so actually there are three sons instead of two as explained in the preposition.

        2. I think your question is flawed to begin with, so the answer you’ve provided is also incorrect. The grandfather is a son, father is a son, son is a son. Father and grandfather are fathers. There are three sons and two fathers.
